How WhatsApp API pricing works in India
Meta charges per message you send, at a rate set for each country and category. Marketing templates cost the most, utility and authentication templates a fraction of that. Replies inside the 24-hour window after a customer's message are free until 30 September 2026, then charged at the utility rate.
That is Meta's part. Your platform then charges a monthly fee and, on most platforms, a percentage on top of every message. The markup is rarely on the pricing page. It shows up as a per-message rate that is 10 to 20 percent higher than Meta's.
Reading your estimate
- Enter delivered messages, not contacts. A weekly broadcast to 5,000 people is about 20,000 marketing messages a month.
- Order and shipping updates are utility. Order roughly 3 per order.
- Add 18 percent GST to any figure when comparing against an invoice.
- The markup column is illustrative at 15 percent. Check your platform's actual per-message rate against Meta's.
Lowering the bill
Send marketing only to people who opted in and engage, since blocked and reported messages also hurt your quality rating. Move transactional messages to utility templates.
